Pallavas of Kanchi, Vishnukundin type, Uninscribed Copper Alloyed, 1.36g, “Lion” type, Obv: Stylised lion, roaring to right in dotted circle, Rev: Bull facing right under a crescent in a rayed circle (Unpublished in major sources). Very fine, very rare. The Pallavas extended their empire an along the coastal part of Andhra in 5th century AD. A combination of bull and lion suggests affinity with Pallava kings with names like Nandivarman and Simhavishnu. Both animals were symbolically associated with the Pallavas.
