Mahadaji Sindhiya, Silver Rupee, 10.86g, Shahjahanpur Mint, in the name of Shah Alam II, RY 7 (Not listed in KM or Lingen-Wiggins). Very fine, extremely rare.
Shahjahanpur was an important market town in the Sindhia territories in Central India, located between the Chambal and Betwa rivers. This is perhaps the earliest issues of the mint, and if the RY on the reverse is assumed to be of Shah Alam II, it was struck soon after Mahadaji Sindhia's claim to the Sindhia Throne- Gaddi was ratified by the Peshwa. Later coins with a Trisul mint-mark have been offered in other auctions.
