Jahangir, Copper Double Dam or Tanka, 40.60g, “Jahangiri” type, Udaipur Mint, AH 1018/ RY 3. Very fine for type, extremely rare.
Jahangir’s copper coins struck in the double dam denomination are exceedingly rare with only a few pieces known so far, from the mints of Narnol, Ajmer, Kotri and Bairath. This is the first piece of Udaipur mint offered at an auction. Udaipur is identified with Udepuravati near Neem Ka Thana in Shekhavati, Rajasthan. The region has local copper mines which were exploited for making coins.
